  • Your order has arrived: 5 checks to do in the first 10 minutes

Most issues show up in the first few minutes of use. Doing these checks straight away makes any return quick and simple.

    1. Compare it with the listing

Open the listing (the ID is on your receipt, for example UKU-L-1042) and check the photos and condition notes against the item in front of you.

    2. Check what’s in the box

Make sure everything under “Included” is there. Items under “Not included” were listed as missing.

    3. Charge and power on

Plug in the charger and confirm the charging light or icon appears. Then power on and let it start up fully.

    4. Test the essentials

    • Screen: look for dead pixels on a plain white background.
    • Keyboard and touch: type a sentence and use every key you rely on.
    • Wi-Fi, sound and camera.

    5. Tell us within 7 days if something isn’t right

If anything doesn’t match the listing, contact support with your order reference and a photo. Our returns policy explains what happens next.

  • Make a used laptop battery last longer

Batteries wear with every charge cycle and with heat. You can’t stop that, but you can slow it down a lot.

    Keep it cool

Heat is the biggest enemy. Use the laptop on a hard surface, not a bed or cushion, and don’t leave it in a hot car.

Use charge limits if you have them

Many laptops can stop charging at 80%. On Lenovo it’s in Vantage, on Dell in Power Manager, and on Mac it’s “Optimised Battery Charging”. If the laptop is plugged in most of the day, turn it on.

    During power cuts

Running the battery all the way down regularly speeds up wear. When you can, plug in at around 20% rather than waiting for it to shut down.

    When to replace it

Below about 70% health, or if the laptop shuts down unexpectedly, a replacement battery is usually worth it. Ask us — we can check compatibility for your model.
